Michael leads Encon Construction Group and Encon Steel with a focus on creating personal customer relationships, sound reliability and a can-do attitude for projects large and small, complex and simple. Michael utilizes his 18 years of experience, troubleshooting and construction-specific knowledge to guide his team in quality execution, including some of the most challenging logistical feats, delivering big results in short timeframes.
In 2007, Michael led the group selected as one of four preferred developers to rollout Fresh & Easy™ neighborhood grocery stores throughout the state of California. Michael and his team managed all development services, construction management, land sourcing, lease development, entitlements, alcohol licensing, community outreach, design development, architecture and engineering for each 15,000 square-foot location.
In 2012, Michael and his team made the transportation of the Space Shuttle Endeavour possible by gathering and laying thousands of steel plates through the streets of Los Angeles, providing logistics services and permit expediting through multiple state and local agencies.
Michael began his career at The Walt Disney Company as a member of the team that directed all aspects of design and construction for merchandise locations, restaurants, attractions and area developments for Disneyland. In addition, he developed concepts from origin to approval, coordinated efforts with art directors, designers, engineers, park operations and project management, ensuring budget, timeline and the park’s vision were preserved.
Prior to founding Encon Construction Services in 2011, Michael was the Vice President of Development Services at The Bergman Companies in Chino, Calif. for nine years. Michael was responsible for managing major construction projects from inception to completion, new business development, selecting architects, engineers, construction management personnel, and managing pay requests, change orders and construction schedules. In 2001, Michael was the Director of Production at Digital On-Demand, where he grew the company from five employees to more than 130 employees. At On-Demand, Michael launched the first digitally transmitted CD sales system in the world. Michael is a California-licensed contractor with a Class-B license.
Mitch brings 33 years of experience to Encon Steel, with a focus on business development, project management and estimating. Mitch has highly specialized experience and a passion for complicated steel, glass and iron projects that demand intricate and precise solutions. Possessing an affinity for developing creative executions, Mitch leads Encon Steel with a top-notch team, long-term client relationships and a focus to deliver original solutions to unique challenges.
Mitch's career is defined by his roster of high-profile clients and projects such as The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Irvine, LAC-USC Hospital, the Jet Propulsion Building in Pasadena, the Budweiser Plant in Van Nuys, Calif., the Los Angeles Times building, the Dorchester Condos in Westwood and General Dynamics Building in Pomona.
Prior to his role at Encon, Mitch spent seven years at United Riggers & Erectors working with business development, sales efforts, project management and estimating. His experience also includes superintendent roles at Architectural Glass & Aluminum and Permasteelisa Cladding Technologies, an international and highly-recognized development team.
Mitch is a third-generation Ironworker and his family has held membership in the Iron Workers Union since 1936. Personally, Mitch has been a member of Ironworkers Local Union #433 since 1981.
Shelly brings a wealth of experience to Encon, with a focus on estimating, contract compliance and project management. Some of Shelly's career highlights include large subdivisions, extensive tenant improvements, managing heavy equipment with precision, and leading large teams of surveyors, contractors, and engineers. Being one of the founders of Encon Construction Services, Shelly has been a key team member since the very beginning.
Shelly's career includes multi-million dollar projects, both commercial and industrial, design build projects, capital improvement projects, and pre-engineered metal erection projects. Shelly spearheaded efforts for Shuttle Endeavour's move in Los Angeles, expediting traffic control, demolition, and engineering for the massive move.
Prior to her current role at Encon, Shelly spent six years as a project manager at Varsity Contractors in Laguna Hills, Calif. where she was directly responsible for project management, tenant improvements, energy management upgrades and contract administration. Before that, Shelly was a member of the North American Field Support Team at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers for four years. Shelly also worked for MDC Service Corporation as a Lead Dispatch Manager for four years, supervising the satellite office, overseeing customer service efforts, and dispatching technicians where appropriate.
Shelly graduated from Cuesta Community College with a degree in business administration.
Geoff directs all financial activities at Encon and has held his position for two years. Geoff has a fourteen-year background in financial management and accounting, including experience in estimating, budget tracking, project management, annual sales tracking, and expense management.
Geoff previously served as the Operations Construction Manager at The Bergman Companies in Chino, Calif. where he interfaced directly with the CFO and accounting department, handling budgets as large as $15 million. He was directly responsible for retail construction projects, oversight and implantation of all budgets, cost control, initial estimating review and ensuring projects adhered to the proposed budget. Geoff was also accountable for change orders, coordination with project management teams, and profit/loss analysis on a weekly, quarterly and annual basis.
